Little Kaiteriteri Townhouses

NELSON I ARCHITECTURAL HOME I NEW BUILD

Project Overview

Carved into the rock, these two townhouses enjoy expansive vistas to Little Kaiteriteri

lower level anchors the building into the site, housing the garages and entry. The two

floors above step back creating various outdoor spaces with the living spaces on the top

floor enjoying the views. Solid masonry walls provide a protective outer shell, and privacy

from the neighbouring sites, while timber cladding brings a warmth and softness to the

entry and outdoor spaces. Consideration for sun, privacy and topography led us to sit the

two units at different levels and step them back from the street edge to differing degrees,

creating a sense of individuality. Thought to how the dwellings will be used and lived in,

permanent and occasional, drove us to consider low maintenance materials, outdoor

showers at ground level to clean off from the beach before going upstairs, soft finishes

around areas where people will pause and spend time.
