Project Overview

This building is a world-class research winery, designed to attract and host scientists as well as showcase sustainably. The building features a multi-use conference room which is transparent on two sides, one facing the courtyard, the other to view the winery tank room. The building has been designed and constructed to a green five-star rating, including solar PV, rainwater, and daylight harvesting. Major challenges included achieving the green star requirements, local supply chain demand and the fast-track nature of the programme. The winery features a highly specialist and unique fit out with 200 winery tanks which allow for the variation in fermenting sizes from 8 liters, 40 liters, and 200 liters. This winery puts New Zealand wine on the world stage with both research and sustainability.
