Key Nelson staff:
Managing Director- Justin Candish
The company is managed by Justin Candish. Justin has more than 20 years’ experience in the building industry and, prior to joining Scott’s, Justin spent seven years working in a professional project, and construction management role.
Project Director – Malcolm Anderson
Malcolm was the managing director of Kidson Construction. After Kidson merged with Scott Construction, he took up the role of project director with the Scott Construction team. Malcolm is a qualified quantity surveyor and has more than 30 years’ experience in the role. He has spent the majority of his career working as a professional quantity surveyor and project manager globally. He has worked on a diverse range of projects including infrastructure, residential, commercial, retail, tourism, education, public sector, industrial and health. Having worked on small renovation projects right through to large precinct developments with multiple high-rise buildings, Malcolm brings a wealth of knowledge to the team.
Commercial Manager- Lisette Nelson
Lisette has been with Scott Construction for more than six years, having previously worked at Hanham and Philp Contractors Ltd, Christchurch. Lisette has worked as a quantity surveyor for more than 30 years. Having an in-house quantity surveyor of Lisette’s experience enables Scott Construction to produce accurate budgets for clients and manage projects from concept to completion.
Commercial Manager (Civil and Sheds) – Matt Reid
Matt was the commercial manager of Kidson Construction prior to the merger with Scott Construction. He is a qualified quantity surveyor with over 20 years’ experience. Matt is responsible for our civil and shed divisions, which includes our precast yard and structural steel workshop.
Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor – Mark Johnston
Mark manages the maintenance division, ensuring all items are ordered on time and sub-contractors are kept up-to-date with changes. He also assists Lisette to tender and price variations. Mark joined Scott’s in March 2010 from IMB Construction, and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration (Hons) and a National Diploma in Quantity Surveying.
Quantity Surveyor – Luke Benton
Luke is one of our qualified quantity surveyors at Scott Construction. Prior to joining us in January 2016, Luke worked for NZ Strong in Auckland where he was the Quantity Surveyor for the successful $32 million Lynn Mall redevelopment. Luke also gained nine years’ experience in quantity surveying at Stanley Construction in Auckland.
Senior Quantity Surveyor – Mark Johnston Mark has 16 years’ experience in a wide range of sectors. In 2012 post earthquake Mark took on a management opportunity in a start-up company which became one of the biggest residential repair firms in Christchurch expanding from 5 staff to 220 staff and a turnover of over $40million. Mark has strong experience and skills in the office refurbishment and fit out sector and a focus on commercial systems and processes including software systems. Mark has a Bachelor of Construction (Quantity Surveying), National Diploma in Quantity Surveying.
Health and Safety Manager – Jordan Hirn
Overseeing all health and safety systems and processes for Scott Construction and the wider company group is Health and Safety Manager Jordan Hirn. Jordan joined the company in October 2014 and advises and assists contractors and clients with all H&S issues. He was formerly an inspector for WorkSafe New Zealand for three years. Prior, Jordan worked in various regulatory roles for the Queensland government before he relocated from Australia to Nelson. He is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Safety Management (NZISM).
Chief Financial Officer – Craig Dennis
Craig has been Scott Construction’s part-time chief financial officer since March 2015. Craig has worked in finance and management for over 25 years having held a number of senior roles, including chief accountant at the Christchurch Press, general manager of the Nelson Mail, and most recently director of Fairfax NZ’s Results Delivery Office.
Accounts Manager- Hannah McCulloch
Hannah joined Scott Construction in 2014, while completing her Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting. Having completed her degree in December of 2015, Hannah is now working towards completing her Chartered Accountants registration.
Each site is managed by one of our qualified site managers. The site manager for each project is chosen based on relevant experience and expertise. Our site foremen work closely with our management team to ensure that lines of communication are always kept open. This helps to guarantee the efficient delivery of each project.
Key Marlborough staff:
General Manager – John Tovey
John is a highly experienced construction professional. Before establishing Scott Construction Marlborough with Justin Candish in April 2014, John had been the construction manager of T H Barnes in Blenheim and Leighs Construction in Christchurch prior to that. He joined the construction industry full time in 1998 after completing his degree at Canterbury University. Since then he has managed more than 90 major projects. Our Marlborough team of 22 include: Melanie Carriere – Administration, Brett Molloy – Site Management and Estimating; and Neil Phillips, and Tim Herd – Site Foremen.

General Manager – Tony Dodds
Scott Construction Canterbury was established in 2015, after having had a presence in Christchurch via our associated Scott Group business, Future-Proof Flooring. The Canterbury team is led by Tony Dodds and the divisions current landmark project is the Summerset Retirement Village development.
