Managing Director- Justin Candish
The company is managed by Justin Candish. Justin has more than 20 years’ experience in the building industry and, prior to joining Scott’s, Justin spent seven years working in a professional project, and construction management role.
Commercial Manager- Lisette Nelson
Lisette has been with Scott Construction for more than six years, having previously worked at Hanham and Philp Contractors Ltd, Christchurch. Lisette has worked as a quantity surveyor for more than 30 years. Having an in-house quantity surveyor of Lisette’s experience enables Scott Construction to produce accurate budgets for clients and manage projects from concept to completion.
Senior Quantity Surveyor – John Smithies
John joined Scott Construction Nelson as a Senior Quantity Surveyor in March 2014. Prior to this he was Chief Executive of T.H.Barnes in Blenheim, where he had worked for more than seven years, primarily managing the construction division plus managing the tendering and financial elements of all construction contracts. He has also worked as a Senior Quantity Surveyor for Leighs Construction Ltd and Ian Harrison & Associates Ltd.
Senior Quantity Surveyor – Daniel Shim
Daniel Shim is Scott Construction’s Senior Quantity Surveyor, spreading his time over estimates, tenders, and contract administration. Previously, Daniel spent three years as a Lead Contracts Engineer for QGC Pty in Brisbane, moving there from Tauranga where he had lived for fifteen years working for Beca Group and Marra Construction Ltd. His 30+ years of experience runs the range from residential to commercial to industrial. He is a Registered Quantity Surveyor and a member of the NZIQS.
Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor – Mark Johnston
Mark manages the Maintenance Division, ensuring all items are ordered on time and sub-contractors are kept up-to-date with changes. He also assists Lisette to tender and price variations. Mark joined Scott’s in March 2010 from IMB Construction, and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration (Hons) and a National Diploma in Quantity Surveying.
Senior Project Manager- Mark Washington
Mark is the Scott Construction in-house project manager. Mark joined Scott Construction in November 2012, having previously worked for RCP Ltd in Christchurch. Mark has more than 22 years’ experience in all levels of the New Zealand construction industry.
Health and Safety Manager – Jordan Hirn
Overseeing all health and safety systems and processes for Scott Construction and the wider company group is Health and Safety Manager Jordan Hirn. Jordan joined the company in October 2014 and advises and assists contractors and clients with all H&S issues. He was formerly an inspector for WorkSafe New Zealand for three years. Prior, Jordan worked in various regulatory roles for the Queensland Government before he relocated from Australia to Nelson. He is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Safety Management (NZISM).
Office Manager- Abbey Richards
Abbey joined Scott Construction in 2013, while completing her Bachelor of Commerce Degree, Majoring in both Accounting and Management which she completed in November 2014. Her Role Includes: Financial Control and Reporting, Invoicing, Company Wages.
Each site is managed by one of our qualified site managers. The site manager for each project is chosen based on relevant experience and expertise. Our site foremen work closely with our management team to ensure that lines of communication are always kept open. This helps to guarantee the efficient delivery of each project.

General Manager – John Tovey
John is a highly experienced construction professional. Before establishing Scott Construction Marlborough with Justin Candish in April 2014, John had been the Construction Manager of T H Barnes in Blenheim and Leighs Construction in Christchurch prior to that. He joined the construction industry full time in 1998 after completing his degree at Canterbury University. Since then he has managed more than 90 major projects. Our Marlborough team of 22 include: Daniel Shim – Quantity Surveying, Billiejean Rouse – Administration, Brett Molloy – Site Management and Estimating; and Neil Phillips, Dion Taylor, and Tim Herd – Site Foremen.
